Scholarships are awarded each year to staff/counselors based on their participation in the camp program for at least two years, GPA, financial need, and community service. Our recipients' continued commitment to Camp AXIOS and to their educational goals, make them excellent role models for out campers.
Each year the parents of our campers are invited to attend a parent conference that is held in December. Dynamic speakers (an ex-gang member, a family therapist, and a police officer) present three different perspectives on drugs, gangs, and the challenges facing parents today. The parents then participate in a question and answer period and share common experiences and concerns.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM
The "Make A Difference" program was established to provide an opportunity for children who have already
been to Camp Axios to attend another summer. Traditionally, given the high demand, campers have only
had one opportunity to attend Camp Axios. With the "Make A Difference" program, campers can now earn
a return trip to Camp Axios! Campers must simply "Make a Difference" by completing at least 10 hours of
community service. Camp Axios has a suggested list of volunteer opportunities, but the campers are welcome
to submit their own ideas as well. We encourage all of the campers to get involved and "Make A Difference".
CAMP AXIOS REUNION
A yearly reunion is held in December allowing campers to reconnect with staff and counselors. The day includes a variety of arts and crafts and a presentation by motivational speakers who share stories of how they were able to overcome their challenges and redirect their lives from gangs and drugs to success.
